Below is a partial list of our advanced courses. Bracing & EdgingLooking to take your paddling to another level? Paddling in rougher conditions such as waves, surf, current or wind are all dependent on your ability to edge your kayak. Touring kayaks, when upright, track well and are quite fast. However, if you tilt them on their edge their footprint totally changes. Instead of a long narrow boat, you have a short boat with lots of rocker and the ability to turn on a dime, remain stable in surf, and easily cross current. You will learn to use your lower body to control the kayak the way it was intended. You will also learn how to recover from a capsize by incorporating high and low braces - another essential element in paddling in rougher conditions. This is a 2 hour course and is a prerequisite to most of our advanced classes! Cost: $50 Sea Kayak SurfingNot only is learning to surf your sea kayak a blast, it is a great way to improve your paddling skills. We will cover the basics of reading the surf zone, paddling out, catching waves, controlling the kayak on the wave and a myriad of other topics. Bracing skills are essential and a roll is advised. This is a 5-7 hour course. See the video Cost: $100 Advanced Surf ZoneThis is an advanced course because it is taught with
touring kayaks. You will learn all aspects of paddling out through the
surf and safely landing. We will cover rescues, timing boat control,
bracing in waves and surfing. This is an all day course so we will take
several brakes including a lunch break (bring your lunch) Open Water Navigation and TouringThis course builds on our previous courses. With this
course, we take our previously learned skills and move them to a more
demanding environment. We will also include: Marine hazards, navigation,
towing, reading a nautical chart, rules of the road and many more. . See
outline for details. Advanced Surfing Courseit's all about surfing! Learn to read the waves, timing,
bottom turns, cut backs etc.. This Tidal Current CourseThis is a great course for
anyone with intermediate to advanced skills who paddles in the coastal
environment. Paddlers will learn how read and navigate a current, use
the current to their advantage, identify hazards created by current as
well as a wide range of other topics. This is a great course for anyone
who loves the excitement aspects of kayaking. Advanced Tidal Current CourseNot for the faint of heart, this course takes place in
the inlet and covers most of the same material as the Tidal Current
Course. We will maneuver in 3-6 knot current and will also practice
